In Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Quebec, Les Jardins de Marie-Bio rents half-hectare plots to people who want to get started in organic farming. For $2000 a year, the renter gets access to land, but also to infrastructure such as a greenhouse, an irrigation system, and cold storage for vegetables. Co-founder Louise-Marie Beauchamp talks about the reasons why she started the project, and of the importance of returning to a local, small-scale agriculture.
